Frecciarossa or Frecciargento or Italo
Speed by train straight from Florence to Rome. Both NTV Italo and Trenitalia services operate on this route, between them offering three fast trains every hour. The high-speed rail route between the two cities initially runs south up the Arno Valley before cutting through the hills to reach the valley of the River Tiber which the train follows for the rest of the run down to Rome.
Florence to Rome
Most high-speed trains to Rome depart from Florence Santa Maria Novella (SMN) station. Just half a dozen trains each day depart instead from an alternative station called Campo di Marte. The Trenitalia trains (either Frecciarossa or Frecciargento) usually run to Roma Termini with a stop at Tiburtina along the way. Italo services on this route follow the same pattern. Two Rome-bound Trenitalia trains each day continue beyond Terimini station and terminate at Rome Fiumicino Airport.
All but a handful of the fast trains from Florence SMN run non-stop to Rome Tiburtina.
