Frecciarossa or Italo
When travelling by train from Florence to Milan, you have a choice of NTV Italo or Trenitalia Frecciarossa services.
The route follows a high-speed line. Most of the stretch from Florence to Bologna is in tunnels, so the views are unexciting. Beyond Bologna, however, there are good views. Sit on the left of the train for glimpses of receding hills as you speed north-west towards the River Po and Milan.
Florence S.M.N. to Milan

All fast trains leave from Florence Santa Maria Novella station. Trains arrive in Milan at two different stations. All Italo services and most Trenitalia Frecciarossa services from Florence run to Milan Centrale. A small number of Trenitalia trains run to Porta Garibaldi instead.
Most of the high-speed direct trains from Florence to Milan make just one stop along the way, at Bologna Centrale. A small number of trains make one or two additional stops, extending the journey time by up to 20 minutes.
