Taking the train from Verona to Rome is the best way to travel between the two cities. Trenitalia runs high-speed Frecciargento trains each day from Verona to the Italian capital. Private operator NTV Italo also runs trains on this route.
This is a route that caters mainly to the business market, so more trains run at the start and end of each day with fewer direct trains in the middle of the day. If you want to travel from Verona to Rome at a time when there is no direct train, that’s easily done with just one change of train at Bologna Centrale. Connections via Bologna are generally hourly, but the change of train can add an hour or more to the overall travel time.
Verona Porta Nuova to Rome Termini

Fast Frecciargento or Italo trains from Verona to Rome all depart from Verona Porta Nuova station, making two stops along the way. These are at Bologna and Florence. Arrival in Rome is at Roma Termini station. Italo trains also serve Tiburtina station in Rome.
The journey splits neatly into three parts. Running south from Verona, the line crosses the North Italian Plain, bridging the River Po at Ostiglia. The stretch from Bologna to Florence is almost entirely in tunnels. Between Florence and Rome, you’ll get excellent views of the Tiber Valley as the train weaves south towards Lazio and the Italian capital.
