Frecciargento or Italo
Taking the train from Rome to Verona is the best way to travel between the two cities.
This is a route that caters mainly to the business market, so more trains run at the start and end of each day with fewer trains in the middle of the day. If you want to travel from Rome to Verona at a time when there is no direct train, that’s easily done with just one change of train at Bologna Centrale. Connections via Bologna are generally hourly, but the change of train can add an hour or more to the overall travel time.
Rome Termini to Verona Porta Nuova

Fast Frecciargento or Italo trains from Rome to Verona all depart from Roma Termini, making two stops along the way. These are at Florence Campo di Marti and Bologna Centrale. The stopping point in Verona is Porta Nuova station. Most of these direct Trenitalia trains continue beyond Verona to either Brescia or Bolzano. Italo trains from Rome to Verona also serve Tiburtina station in Rome (as well as Roma Termini).
The journey splits neatly into three parts. Between Rome and Florence, you’ll get excellent views of the Tiber Valley as the train weaves north towards Umbria and Tuscany. The stretch from Florence to Bologna is almost entirely in tunnels. North of Bologna, the line crosses the North Italian Plain, bridging the River Po at Ostiglia.
