Eurail is now Interrail
Eurail and Interrail were two versions of the same pass, and which one you could buy depended on where you lived. That split has gone. There is now one name, Interrail, and it is available wherever you live. Your pass, bookings and account stay the same.

Eurail is now Interrail: one name, the same 33 countries, one place to book. To mark the change, all Global Passes and One Country Passes are up to 50% off for bookings made from Thursday 24th September to Thursday 1st October (ends 10:00 AM CEST). Passes valid for one month or longer are 50% off and shorter passes are 15% off.
Passes bought in the sale can be refunded within seven days of purchase, after which they cannot be refunded or exchanged. There is no code to enter. The discount is already applied to the prices you see.

For instance, with an Italy One Country Pass, passholders can hop from Rome to Florence and back again, all in one day.

Italy One Country Eurail Pass vs. Interrail One Country Pass
There used to be a difference, and it was never about what the passes covered. It was about who could use them. Eurail Passes were sold to travellers living outside Europe and Interrail Passes to travellers living in Europe.
Since 10 September 2026 there is one name, Interrail, and one pass. The Interrail Italy Pass is the same product that used to be sold as the Eurail Italy Pass, with the same features and the same benefits, and you can buy it wherever you live outside Italy. If you live in Italy, a One Country Pass for Italy is not available to you, but the Interrail Global Pass is, and it covers travel into and out of your home country.
If you bought a Eurail Italy Pass before 10 September 2026, it stays valid for its full period and nothing you have booked needs changing.
How the Italy One Country Pass Works
When you activate an Italy One Country Pass, you can embark on unlimited adventures without the hassle of having to stop and purchase additional train tickets. Of course, there are a few key factors you'll need to keep in mind before you start your journey.
Here's how it works:
Travel days
The Italy One Country Pass uses a fixed number of travel days, which means you'll get to pick how many days you plan on travelling when you purchase your pass.
You can choose between 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8 travel days.
Train carriers
Italy is home to some of the world's best high-speed trains, and the Italy One Country Pass gives you access to Trenitalia's network, from the high-speed Frecce services to regional lines. If you're looking to get around Italy quickly and in style, Trenitalia is the operator your pass covers.
Trenitalia
Renowned for its fleet of high-speed Frecce trains, Trenitalia operates hundreds of departures daily, covering routes to Italy's most popular destinations. Onboard, you'll enjoy comfortable seating, free Wi-Fi, snack and beverage carts, and exclusive amenities in premium classes.

Seat reservations
While the Italy One Country Pass gives you access to both high-speed and regional trains, it's important to note that seat reservations are often mandatory on high-speed services such as Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca. These reservations must be booked in advance and require an additional fee per journey.
For a more flexible and cost-effective travel experience, Intercity and regional trains allow you to board freely without a seat reservation or extra fees, so you can simply hop on and go. This is a great way to explore smaller towns and enjoy Italy's scenic landscapes at a relaxed pace.
Pass validity
Keep in mind, a One Country Pass gives you the freedom to explore just one country. If you decide you want to switch up your plans or depart to a nearby country, you’ll need to purchase additional rail passes or tickets.

Italy One Country Pass types
Like the Interrail Global Pass, a One Country Pass also comes in two types: Consecutive and Flexible.
The key difference is how your travel days are used. With a Consecutive Pass, you get unlimited travel for a set number of days in a row. This is ideal if you're travelling non-stop across Italy without breaks.
A Flexible Pass gives you a set number of travel days within a longer period, for example 4 travel days within 1 month. This option is great if you prefer to space out your journeys and explore each destination at your own pace.
Italy One Country Pass classes of service
With a One Country Pass, passholders can choose between a First Class or Second Class Pass, granting access to all trains covered by the pass within the selected country. However, some trains do not offer different classes, meaning seat availability is based on open seating, especially on regional trains. High-speed trains require seat reservations, which must be booked in advance for an additional fee at times.

The most common option, Second Class provides a comfortable and budget-friendly way to travel, typically including:

How to use the Italy One Country Pass
If unlimited travel across Italy sounds like a dream come true, using your Italy One Country Pass is a lot easier than you might think.
Step 1: Visit Rail Europe
Purchase your digital Italy One Country Pass directly from the Rail Europe website. Select your desired country or region, your country of residence, and your age to get started. One Country Passes are not sold to residents of the country the pass covers, so we will tell you at checkout if a pass is not available where you live.
Step 2: Choose your travel days
Select a pass with 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8 travel days, or opt for a longer period based on your itinerary.
Step 3: Select your class of service
Decide between First Class for extra comfort and amenities or Second Class for a more budget-friendly option.
Step 4: Purchase Your Pass
Enter your traveller details and complete your purchase. Once confirmed, your pass will be ready for activation.
Step 5: Book seat reservations (if required)
Some high-speed trains require seat reservations, which must be booked separately for an additional fee. Be sure to check and secure your reservations in advance.
Step 6: Activate your pass
When you're ready to travel, activate your Italy One Country Pass in the Rail Planner app. You have up to 11 months from buying your pass to activate it, and once a pass is activated it cannot be refunded. Once activated, you're all set to explore Italy by rail.
