The Bern train station is managed by the Swiss Federal Railways. There is a shuttle bus to Bern Airport from the station. The station is also served by TGV Lyria and ICE trains. The station is on the Olten–Lausanne line (Mittellandlinie) and the Lötschberg line.

After the 2003 renovation, the Bern railway station now accommodates a shopping centre. Conveniently located in the vast network of Swiss Federal Railway between Geneva, Basel and Zurich, Bern is served twice per hour by express (InterCity) trains from each of these cities. Hourly express trains take you into all directions, including Interlaken and Lucerne.
