Thello EuroCity
It is easy to travel by train from Marseille to Genoa. This key route links the principal city of Provence with the capital of Liguria. This rail route runs via the Riviera coast, skirting the Côte d’Azur to cross the French-Italian border between Menton and Ventimiglia. The route is served by just three direct EuroCity trains each week, which is run by Italian rail operator Thello.
If the timings of the direct service don’t suit your schedule, you can still follow the classic Riviera coastal route from Marseille to Genoa using other trains. There are usually three other options per day, each requiring one or two easy changes of train along the way, normally at Nice Ville and sometimes also in Ventimiglia.
Marseille to Genoa

Sit on the right side of the train from Marseille to Genoa for the best views of the coast. You’ll be rewarded with early glimpses of rocky coves as the train runs east through Cassis and Bandol. Beyond Toulon, the train turns inland but returns to the coast to take in resorts of the Côte d’Azur: Cannes, Antibes, Nice, Monte Carlo and Menton. You’ll get wonderful views of the Ligurian coast as the train continues to Genoa.
The direct Thello train to Genoa leaves from St Charles station in Marseille. It makes 16 stops on its journey to the Italian port city, where it arrives at Genova Piazza Principe station.
