TGV or Thalys
It is very easy to travel by train from Brussels to Marseille, with direct trains serving this route each day. The majority of the trains are TGVs run by French rail operator SNCF, but some services during summer are operated by Thalys. If the timing of the direct trains from Brussels to Marseille does not suit your schedule, there are additional options requiring a change of train at Lille Europe or Lyon Part Dieu.
The route goes south-west from Brussels through Picardie and then skirts the eastern edge of Paris. After that it’s a quick journey south through Burgundy to cross the River Rhône east of Lyon. Almost before you know it, your train is in Provence. The last half hour of the journey offers fine views of the landscapes celebrated in the paintings of Cézanne.
Bruxelles-Midi to Marseille-St-Charles
Trains to Marseille leave from Brussels Midi station for the journey to the Riviera. The TGV services all stop at Aeroport Paris-Charles de Gaulle TGV, Lyon Part Dieu and Avignon TGV. The summer-season Thalys services on this route run non-stop from Brussels to Valence and then stop twice more on their journey to Marseille. Whether you take a TGV or Thalys train, arrival in Marseille is at St-Charles station, from where it is just a 10-minute walk through the Quartier Belsunce to the old port.
