Trains to Brussels

Why does one hear so much about Paris and so little about Brussels? Experienced travellers tell us that Brussels is actually Europe’s most underrated capital. True, as a key destination for business and Eurocrats, Brussels can be pricey, but the cost of hotels plummets on weekend nights. Choose your travel days carefully, and Brussels is a canny choice for a city break. This cosmopolitan city offers great food, fine architecture and a lively arts scene.

The Grand Place (Grote Markt in Dutch) is the hub to which all visitors to Brussels inevitably return. This is one of Europe’s finest urban spaces. The nearest railway station to the Grand Place is Brussels Central, which is served by a huge range of local and regional train services as well as Intercity trains to Brussels Airport, Antwerp, Liège, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Luxembourg.

For high-speed trains make for Brussels Midi (Zuid in Dutch), from where there are direct trains to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. Brussels Midi also offers a good range of French TGV trains to provincial cities across France, with regular departures to Lille, Marseille, Lyon and Strasbourg. For summer 2019, there is a new direct link to Bordeaux. All Intercity trains (and regional and local services) which serve Brussels Central also serve Brussels Midi. The airport at Zaventem has a dedicated rail link to the city centre, with airport trains serving both Central and Midi. Note that the airport station is shown here as Bruxelles-Nat.-Aéroport.

We sell a wide range of train tickets for journeys within Belgium, so you can book with us for day trips or longer excursions from Brussels. Bruges, Antwerp and the lovely landscapes of the Ardennes region are all within easy reach of the capital.

If you travel to or from Brussels by train, why not take time out to visit Train World, which is in the Brussels suburb of Schaarbeek, north-east of the city centre? It's by no means as nerdish as it sounds. Train World styles itself as being much more than just another railway museum; it's “more like an opera,” they say. Go and see what you make of it.

Child and youth passengers

The definition of "Child" and "Youth" varies by country and operator. This is why we ask for the age of young passengers.

Sometimes children below a certain age can travel without a seat for free. If you want to guarantee a seat for child passengers, enter '6' as the age of the child.
