Frecciarossa or Italo
Even if the pace is only moderate on the route from Milan to Padua, the train does however use a new dedicated high-speed line between Treviglio and Brescia, which opened in late 2016. This 40-km stretch of new track trimmed about 15 minutes off journey times on the Milan to Padua run. In due course, additional high-speed stretches will bring further time savings. Meanwhile, much of the route follows legacy railway lines, but with Trenitalia and NTV Italo locked in head to head competition on this route, both companies are using their smartest trains on the Milan to Padua run.
The landscape on this route is initially flat, becoming more interesting as you travel further east. There’s a tantalising glimpse of Lake Garda just prior to Verona and a particularly lovely stretch east of Verona where the route passes through the Soave wine region.
Milan Centrale to Padua

Trenitalia and NTV Italo compete on the rail route from Milan to Padua, using comfortable high-speed trains - some might say a case of overkill as it's not a high-speed route at all. There is in addition an occasional EuroCity train (operated by Swiss Railways). Trains to Padua all depart from Milan Centrale station. Most trains on this route make four intermediate stops along the way. These include the cities of Brescia, Verona and Vicenza.
