It is very easy to take the train from Milan to Verona. The fast train uses a new dedicated high-speed line between Treviglio and Brescia, which opened in late 2016. This 40-km stretch of new track trimmed about 15 minutes off journey times on this route. In due course, additional high-speed stretches will bring further time savings. Meanwhile, much of the route follows legacy railway lines, but with Trenitalia and NTV Italo locked in head to head competition on this route, both companies are using their smartest trains on the Milan to Verona run.
The route east from Milan crosses the North Italian Plain, so the landscape is pretty two-dimensional. But it’s pleasant and there’s an unexpected moment about 10 minutes before Verona when Lake Garda suddenly appears on the left side of the train.
Milan Centrale to Verona Porta Nuova

The route from Milan to Verona is operated by both Trenitalia and NTV Italo. There is also an occasional EuroCity train (operated by Swiss Railways). Trains to Verona leave from Milan Centrale station, generally at about hourly intervals (or even more frequently) throughout the day. Most trains between the two cities make two stops along the way. Brescia is the most important intermediate city on this route.
In Verona, you'll alight from the train at Verona's main railway station, which is called Verona Porta Nuova. This station is located well south of the city centre - roughly a 20-minute walk from the main sights, but there are also regular buses leaving for the central area from just outside the station. The trains from Milan continue beyond Verona to Venice.
