EuroCity or Regional/Suburban train
It's a short hop on the train from Milan to Como, a journey of 50 kilometres which transports you from Italy’s busiest commercial hub to one of the country’s most relaxing lakeside resorts. It’s no surprise that many who work in Milan prefer to live in Como and travel in each day by train. So this can be a very busy route at commuter times.
If you are in the very middle of Milan, make for Centrale station, from where a dozen fast trains each day speed to Como in under 40 minutes. There is a much more frequent, but slower, option from Porta Garibaldi station in Milan, where suburban trains depart every half an hour for Como.
Milan to Como San Giovanni
Fast, but infrequent, EuroCity and regional trains leave from Milan Centrale for Como. Slower, but very frequent, trains on suburban rail route S11 leave from Porta Garibaldi station in Milan. Both of these routes take you to San Giovanni station in Como, just a short walk west of the centre of town. Whichever option you choose, the train runs north from Milan through Monza and Seregno – a dismal sprawl of endless suburbs and industrial estates. Como comes as a great relief.
