Direct EuroCity services make it easy to travel by train from Munich to Verona, this key route between Bavaria and northern Italy cuts through Austria. It takes in some lovely scenery on the journey through Upper Bavaria, the Tyrol and Alto Adige regions.
Each day, there are direct trains on this route: the majority of them are daytime EuroCity services using Austrian Railways (ÖBB) trains. There is in addition an overnight service, but the scenery on this route is so magnificent that it would be a pity to miss it on a night-time journey.
Munich Hbf to Verona Porta Nuova

Sit on the right side of the train from Milan to Verona for the best views as the train travels south-east from Munich towards the Austrian border. The principal Austrian city served by this train is Innsbruck. Heading south from Innsbruck, the train climbs up steeply to the Brenner Pass and the Italian frontier. Beyond the border, the line winds slowly down through the South Tyrol – a region of Italy which is largely German speaking – stopping along the way at the city of Bolzano (Bozen in German).
Trains on this route leave from Munich Hauptbahnhof and arrive at Porta Nuova station in Verona. They make 12 intermediate stops on the journey between the two cities. Some EuroCity trains continue beyond Verona to either Bologna or Venice.
