Frecciarossa or Italo
It is very easy to take the train from Verona to Milan. The train uses a new dedicated high-speed line between Brescia and Treviglio, which opened in late 2016. This 40-km stretch of new track trimmed about 15 minutes off journey times on this route. In due course, additional high-speed stretches will bring further time savings. Meanwhile, much of the route follows legacy railway lines, but with Trenitalia and NTV Italo locked in head to head competition on this route, both companies are using their smartest trains on the Verona to Milan run.
About 10 minutes after leaving Verona, there is an unexpected moment when Lake Garda suddenly appears on the right side of the train. The route west towards Milan is pleasant but pretty two-dimensional as the train crosses the North Italian Plain. However, the best of the views are all on the right side of the train.
Verona Porta Nuova to Milan Centrale
The route from Verona to Milan is operated by both Trenitalia and NTV Italo. There is also an occasional EuroCity train (operated by Swiss Railways). Trains depart Verona from Porta Nuova station, which is very convenient for the city centre. In Milan all trains arrive at Centrale station. Most trains between the two cities make just two stops along the way. Brescia is the most important intermediate city on this route.
