EuroCity
The direct EuroCity train from Vienna to Venice is one of Europe’s great rail trips. The first part of this daytime journey travels south from Vienna on the world-famous Semmering rail route. There are higher mountains elsewhere in the Alps, but few have the kind of delicate beauty of the hills that surround the Semmering Railway.
Austrian Railways (ÖBB) also run an overnight train between Vienna and Venice. That night train takes a different route, running via Salzburg.
Vienna to Venice

The daytime train from Vienna to Venice does not hurry, stopping 15 times on its journey between the two cities. Klagenfurt and Villach are the two main Austrian cities served by this EuroCity train. Once over the border into Italy, the two notable towns where the train stops are Udine and Treviso.
In Vienna the trains leaves from Hauptbahnhof, making a second stop 5 minutes later to pick up passengers at Wien Meidling. You have a choice of two stations to alight in Venice: Mestre and Santa Lucia. The latter, located right by the Grand Canal, is much more convenient for the heart of Venice.
