It is a simple matter to travel by train from London in Utrecht, and a journey that's been made all the easier by the launch in spring 2018 of direct Eurostar trains from London to the Netherlands. The change of train is at Rotterdam, with the onward journey from Rotterdam to Utrecht being on a comfortable Dutch Intercity train.
Don't worry if the timings of the direct trains from London to the Netherlands do not quite suit your schedule. There are plenty of alternative options to Utrecht, usually involving an additional change of train at either Lille Europe or Brussels Midi.
London St. Pancras International to Rotterdam Centraal

Travelling by train from London to the Netherlands is a journey which takes in four countries: England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The first part of the journey from London sweeps through Thamesside landscapes and rural Kent to reach the Channel Tunnel. Entering France at Calais, the rail route to Brussels then tracks east across Flanders to gain Belgian territory shortly after passing through Lille. All trains to Rotterdam stop at Brussels Midi before tracking north through Antwerp towards Rotterdam and Amsterdam.
The train from London stops at Rotterdam's Centraal Station, from where it is just a short tram ride south to the central district and the complex of museums and galleries around Museumpark.
Rotterdam Centraal to Utrecht Centraal

During much of the working day, fast Intercity (IC) trains leave Rotterdam Centraal every 15 minutes for Utrecht Centraal. During the early morning hours (especially on Sundays) and late evenings, the frequency drops to just half hourly. It is normally a 37-minute journey, with most trains making just two stops along the way. These are at Rotterdam Alexander and at the city of Gouda (irredeemably associated with the eponymous cheese). This is a route more noted for its clinical efficiency than for any remarkable scenery along the way.
