The Berner Oberland Pass: for a Swiss Alpine adventure
Enjoy unlimited travel by train, boat and cable car in this stunning region for up to 10 consecutive days!
The Berne Oberland (or Bernese Highlands) spans over 2,500 kilometres in the Alps of central Switzerland. Bern is the capital of Switzerland and though it is dubbed as a bit of a slow city, Bern is surrounded by amazing nature. Located south of Bern, the Berner Oberland has long been a magnet for nature enthusiasts, eager photographers, and Alpine adventurers due to its natural beauty and grandeur. With snow-capped peaks, crystal clear lakes, and charming villages, it’s easy to see why! If you’re tempted to immerse yourself in the beauty of the region, the Berner Oberland Pass might be just the ticket. Unlike point-to-point tickets (good for one single or return journey), a pass gives you unlimited access to regional transport. So, choose the number of days you want to travel and get ready to explore by bus, boat, cable car and more.

The Region

From some of Switzerland’s most famous stark peaks (think Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau) to the glacial Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, the region’s spectacular scenery can be admired at any time of year. It is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise with innumerable hiking and biking trails, ample opportunities for mountaineering and stunning vistas for picnicking and quality family time. Winter means additional outdoor sports such as ice climbing, skiing, snowboarding and more.
Those who prefer to reach the summits in a more leisurely manner can opt for one of the many mountain railways or cable cars included with the Pass. Take a thrilling ride, suspended 3,020 meters in the air from Engelberg toTitlis, opt for a family-friendly gondola adventure from Betelberg to Lenk, or begin the journey towards Jungfraujoch (known as the Top of Europe) on the Jungfraujochbahnen. It is a truly unique way to explore some of Switzerland’s highest peaks.
Down in the valleys, hop aboard iconic panoramic trains like the Luzern-Interlaken and GoldenPass Express. These scenic trains with extra-large windows snake through picturesque towns and sparkling green meadows, offering up unforgettable views from the comfort of your seat. Between photo opportunities, grab a snack at the Bistro on the Luzern-Interlaken. Fans of classic trains can even book a spot on the GoldenPass Belle Epoque, a train modelled after the 1930s luxury style of the Orient Express.
When you’ve seen it all by rail, it’s time to get out on the water. Admire the turquoise Lake Brienz aboard a culinary cruise, night cruise, or Belle Epoque paddle steamer, dating back to 1914. The shoreline is dotted with charming Swiss villages, making for an idyllic journey. Lake Thun also has its own cruises and steamboat. Views include resort town Interlaken, Thun Castle (one of many!), and trio of peaks Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau. After your cruise, get on a post bus at one of the many lakeside bus-stops to head to your next destination.
