Where to visit in France this spring
Spring travel to over 200 train stations across France is now available! But how do you decide where to go? It's less about the destination and more about the journey. The adventure will unfold as you travel. However, for good measure, here are some cities on our 2024 train travel itinerary.
The route: Scoot from Paris to Toulouse while you snooze on a night train.
- Paris: There is nothing, I repeat, nothing like Paris in spring. As the numerous public gardens burst into bloom, so do the cafes as the locals come out of hibernation in search of sun and good conversation with friends.
- Toulouse: You've heard of "la vie en rose," but have you heard of "La Ville Rose," or Toulouse, The Pink City? Stroll through the terracotta buildings and soak up the charm of the surrounding villages during a relaxing boat ride along the Canal du Midi.
The route: Travel from Lyon, the gastronomic hub of France to Nice, the sunny hub.
- Lyon: Get your fill of local flavor, and we aren’t just talking about food. Rent a bike and cycle along the Rhône and Saône Rivers or find a unique souvenir at Les Puces du Canal or Marché aux Puces du Quai Saint-Antoine.
- Nice: Spring always blooms on the French Riviera (Côte d'Azur). Escape to the Mediterranean coastline, and take it all up from the vantage point of Colline du Château. Just prepare for a bit of a hike, but the panoramic view is totally worth it.
The route: Travel from Arles, the inspiration for Van Gogh paintings, to Marseille, the coastal muse for artists and travelers alike.
- Arles: After trips around the region, you'll understand how Arles inspired masterpieces like "Starry Night Over the Rhône" and other famous Van Gogh paintings. However, the town's history extends far beyond Van Gogh's time. Take the time to also visit the impressive Roman Arena and Roman Theater.
- Marseille: Fresh seafood along the waterfront? Diving into sapphire blue waters from atop Calanques? A boat ride to the former prison where the novel "The Count of Monte Cristo" was set? Marseille gives you all of this and much more!
What to expect aboard
All SNCF French trains offer comfortable reclining seats with plush headrests and convenient footrests. Sit back and relax with complimentary Wi-Fi, individual reading lights, accessible restrooms, and a bar-bistro carriage where you can stretch your legs and enjoy a coffee or light snack. Unlike airplanes, you'll also find ample luggage storage space.
