The direct EuroCity train from Vienna to Venice is one of Europe’s great rail trips. The first part of this daytime journey travels south from Vienna on the world-famous Semmering rail route. There are higher mountains elsewhere in the Alps, but few have the kind of delicate beauty of the hills that surround the Semmering Railway.
