The route followed by the TGVs cuts south-east from Paris, skirting Burgundy and crossing the River Rhône east of Lyon. Just before Marseille, the TGVs to the Riviera leave the high-speed line and follow a traditional rail route east along the Mediterranean coast to Nice.
