Favourite fall train journeys from 39€

11 September 2023

From now until 17 September only, book routes to Paris, Barcelona, Geneva and more!

Summer may be coming to an end, but now is the perfect time to get a head start on booking for fall. This week only, tickets are on sale from 39 euros for travel from 10 October to 12 November 2023. Routes are short and sweet (less than 4 hours), so a long weekend is more than enough time to participate in the fall festivities. See the wine harvest in France, take advantage of mild temperatures in Barcelona, or enjoy Oktoberfest in Germany.

Paris to Barcelona

Paris gets even more magical come fall: think colourful leaves and harvest festivals. The Fête des Vendages at Paris’ only urban vineyard takes place this year from 11 to 15 October. Enjoy live entertainment, pop-up markets and more. Prefer to avoid the hustle and bustle? Take a seat at an outdoor café (Many have blankets available for customers in the colder months!) and enjoy a glass of Beaujolais as part of the Beaujolais Nouveau festival, which kicks off on 16 November. Finish off your journey with sun and sea in Barcelona. It’s the perfect time of year to beat the heat and the crowds of tourists. Enjoy walks along the emptied-out beaches or opt for some Catalan culture at Sagrada Familia church or Parc Guell.

Strasbourg to Munich

Once you’ve seen Paris, enjoy Strasbourg’s autumn splendour, with its share of UNESCO World Heritage sites. There’s plenty to explore on the central Grand Ile (the Large Island) alone. Wander the streets of historic district Petite France to see the shops and architecture of yesteryear. You can always duck into one of the island’s churches in inclement weather: we’d recommend the 15th century Gothic Strasbourg Cathedral. If you’re willing to brave the truly cold temperatures, travel in November: Strasbourg’s world-famous Christmas Market kicks off on the 24th!

Then continue your journey to nearby Munich, Germany.  The capital of the Bavaria region is especially charming come autumn: watch the leaves change in Nymphenburg Palace Park or take part in the storied German tradition of the sauna for an indoor option. If you time it right, you can enjoy the world’s premier beer festival, Oktoberfest, at one of the city’s cafés or biergartens. This year’s festivities are from 16 September to 3 October.

Lyon to Geneva

The French capital of gastronomy is, surprisingly, not Paris but Lyon! Enjoy a hearty meal at one of the city’s Michelin-starred restaurants or opt for traditional local fare at a bouchon lyonnais (a café offering up regional specialties). Digest with a walk through the fall foliage at the Parc de la Tête d’Or (where you’ll find a gourd festival on 15 and 16 October) or snack on chestnuts as you go window shopping on rue de la République. France’s second-largest city has plenty of treasures to discover. And finally, round out your journey in the lakeside city of Geneva, Switzerland. The journey takes less than two hours, so you'll be enjoying the crisp autumn air and a hot fondue in  no time!

Child and youth passengers

The definition of "Child" and "Youth" varies by country and operator. This is why we ask for the age of young passengers.

Sometimes children below a certain age can travel without a seat for free. If you want to guarantee a seat for child passengers, enter '6' as the age of the child.
