The principal Austrian city served by this train is Innsbruck. Heading south from Innsbruck, the train climbs up steeply to the Brenner Pass and the Italian frontier. Beyond the border, the line winds slowly down through the South Tyrol – a region of Italy which is largely German speaking – stopping along the way at the city of Bolzano (Bozen in German).
