The journey from London to Amsterdam by train is so easy that air travel now plays second fiddle to rail on this important route. Eurostar launched a direct twice-daily London to Amsterdam service in April 2018, but there are plenty of additional options with just one easy change of train at either Lille Europe or Brussels Midi, in each case normally continuing to Amsterdam with a high-speed Thalys train (or, in the case of connections through Brussels, sometimes with an Intercity train).
Note that there are not yet direct trains from Amsterdam back to London. They will only start once the UK and the Netherlands have resolved outstanding issues over the British immigration authorities wanting to check passengers' credentials before they board London-bound trains in Amsterdam. Until that is settled, passengers will need to travel first from Amsterdam to Brussels and then board the onward train to London in the Belgian capital.

The first part of the journey from London sweeps through Thamesside landscapes and rural Kent to reach the Channel Tunnel. Entering France at Calais, the rail route to Brussels then tracks east across Flanders to gain Belgian territory shortly after passing through Lille.
