It’s official – the Great Rail Sale of 2025 is here. Why is it called the Great Rail Sale? Well, 50% off tickets across the United Kingdom is pretty great, no? Let’s get into the details so you can get into the savings. 

When is the discount live?

Now through Monday, 20 January 2025 National Rail is serving up over 2 million tickets discounted to up to half off their regular price.

What are the travel dates?

This promo includes travel from Friday, 17 January to Monday, 31 March 2025, setting you up perfectly to save on winter and early spring adventures.

Which tickets are discounted?

This discount is valid for Advance tickets—meaning they must be booked anywhere from 3 to 7 days in advance to lock in this discount. The number of days depends on the train operator. Where a participating train company doesn't offer Advance tickets, Off-Peak tickets may be offered as an alternative.

Which journeys are included in this discount?

Train operators including popular Avanti West Coast, London North Eastern Railway, Govia Thameslink Railway, Great Northern, Chiltern, Cross Country, South Western Railways and East Midlands Railways (among others) are offering discounted tickets as part of the Great Rail Sale. Many of the top journeys covered by these operators are on sale.

London to Edinburgh

With direct journeys of just over 4 hours, travellers can ride in comfort along this route choch full of stunning landscapes. From high tea to haggis, save on travel between these absolutely smashing European capitals.

London to Liverpool

In just over two hours, zip from the River Thames to Albert Dock by train. Looking for something to do in lovely Liverpool? There is plenty to see and learn about in the city with the second most museums in all of the UK, including the popular ‘The Beatles Story’ museum.

London to Manchester

Take the direct train from the buzzing capital in the south to the cultural capital of the north in just over 2 hours. With constant movement around town, including street food, lively concerts,  numerous parks, epic shopping (including second hand treasure hunting), getting bored simply isn't an option in Manchester. 

London to Glasgow

Glasgow offers plenty to enjoy, from the spired Gothic cathedral to the impressive exhibits at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery. However, the first real treasure of this journey is the ride itself. If you plan to nap, do so during the first half of the trip as you leave London. The second half treats you to stunning views of the Lake District and the rolling hills of southern Scotland.

London to Leeds
