Dunkirk

T

The site of a legendary rescue operation during World War II, the beaches of Dunkirk are steeped in history. The Dunkirk Museum, housed in a former bunker along the coast, is certainly unmissable. Even though part of the city was destroyed in the war, it still boasts UNESCO World Heritage sites from bygone eras. The Dunkirk Belfry (60 metres tall, with a view), which dates back to the 14th century, and the Tour du Leughenaer are highlights. Natural wonders include the La Dune Marchand, an 83-hectare nature reserve, complete with hiking trails and over 400 species of plants to discover.

Of course, like any coastal town, Dunkirk has the requisite seaside promenades, restaurants, and ice cream shops. After a day of exploring, sit back and enjoy a box of doigts de Jean-Bart (bite-sized chocolate-covered almond cakes) on Malo-les-Bains beach and watch the sunset.

Etaples Le Touquet

A favourite of the French elite, Le Touquet was built to welcome famous holidaymakers such as Marlena Dietrich and Winston Churchill. The town’s picturesque location on the Bay of Canche, Art Deco architecture, and rolling sand dunes have earned it the nickname the Gem of the Opal Coast. Le Touquet maintains its sophistication and charm to this day—it’s a great destination for those who like the finer things in life. Take a stroll down the Avenue St Jean for a little window shopping at chic luxury shops or indulge in gourmet outdoor dining. Popular activities include horse riding, waterfront golf, and picnics on the beach. If you’re in town at the end of August, take advantage of the Touquet Music Beach Festival.

Boulogne-sur-mer

The charming coastal town of Boulogne-sur-mer isn’t just sun and sandy beaches. It has seen a lot in its 2,000-year history, from the Roman Empire to Charlemagne to Napoleon. Admire the 13th century ramparts, visit Boulogne Castle, or wander along narrow streets filled with quaint shops and cafés. Nature lovers will enjoy learning all about the sea creatures at Nausicaa, Europe’s largest aquarium. And those who would like to venture out into the countryside, the storied Cap-Blanc-Nez and Cap-Gris-Nez cliffs are nearby. Climb to the top for a bird’s eye view of the Straits and chalk-white cliffs of Dover.

Child and youth passengers

The definition of "Child" and "Youth" varies by country and operator. This is why we ask for the age of young passengers.

Sometimes children below a certain age can travel without a seat for free. If you want to guarantee a seat for child passengers, enter '6' as the age of the child.
