All the romance of the early days of rail can still be found at the Marseille St Charles Train Station (Gare de Marseille Saint Charles), Marseille’s main train station. Built in 1848, the St. Charles train station is perched high on a hill to the east of the city center and linked to it by a magnificent staircase.
