It is a very easy journey by train from Paris to La Rochelle on the Atlantic coast of France. It’s a journey which is hugely popular with Parisiennes who in mid-summer swap city life for a spell by the sea. And it's a mark of the enduring popularity of La Rochelle that much improved train services from Paris to the resort town were launched in July 2017.

Paris to La Rochelle-Ville

There are high-speed TGVs each day from Paris Montparnasse to La Rochelle. The train journey starts with an impressive high-speed dash, with most trains covering the first 218 km in less than an hour. The train then follows a new high-speed line, just opened in July 2017, running south from Tours. It branches off near Poitiers from where the train takes a traditional railway line to the coast.
A very occasional seasonal service (just twice-weekly) links Paris to La Rochelle in a record-breaking time of just two-and-a-half hours. Services on this route make between one and four intermediate stops on the journey. These TGV services all run to la Rochelle Ville station, just a 12-minute walk from the Vieux Port in the heart of La Rochelle.
