TGV
The route is served by SNCF’s sleek TGVs, but until recently only the first part of the journey was on a modern high-speed railway line. That changed in July 2017 when a new fast line opened from Tours to Bordeaux. So now you can dash from Paris to Bordeaux in just over two hours. The ride takes in some very rural landscapes as well as skirting fine regional cities like Poitiers and Angoulême.

The departure station in Paris is Montparnasse, and these services all run to Saint-Jean station in the heart of Bordeaux. Thereafter the non-stop trains stick to a new high-speed line (just opened in July 2017) south through the Poitou-Charentes region towards Bordeaux.
