TGV
The fastest high-speed TGV trains run at least hourly on Europe’s first-ever high-speed rail route. The line from Lyon to Paris (called the LGV Sud-Est) was opened in 1981.
The high-speed route is usually served by double-deck TGV Duplex trains, so book a seat on the upper deck for the best views. The journey from Lyon to Paris has a touch of drama. The route sweeps north, dashing through the vineyards of Burgundy before cutting through the hills to reach the chalklands of the Paris Basin.
