Typical stops along this route include Tarragona, Cambrils, L'Aldea-Amposta-Tortosa, Vinaròs, Benicarló-Peñíscola, Benicàssim, Castelló and Valencia-Estació del Nord.
Regional Express
Lower-speed train service that makes even more stops than the Intercity service, resulting in a journey time more than twice the length of high-speed train services, but also the most economical tickets.

Route
Renfe train service from Barcelona to Valencia departs from Barcelona Sants station. It arrives at Valencia's Joaquín Sorolla station. Both stations are centrally located within their respective cities.
Train features
Euromed offers modern amenities, including comfortable seating, power outlets, onboard Wi-Fi, air conditioning and luggage space. Intercity and Regional Express trains are usually older with fewer amenities, but still comfortably appointed.
Benefits
Renfe Euromed and Alvia are fast, comfortable modes of travel. The trains are modern and make the journey rapidly with few to no stops. Travel time is comparable to flying when factoring in transit to a far-away airport versus a centrally-located train station, as well as the security check time.
If you opt for an Intercity or Regional Express journey, you’ll have a longer ride with fewer amenities, but you’ll also save significant money. For budget-conscious travellers, these services represent a viable alternative.
Trains also avoid traffic delays, unlike buses or rental cars. Picking up and dropping off a rental car, parking and fueling can be a hassle, while a spacious train car is more comfortable than a cramped car, bus or airplane.
Finally, trains tend to be more economical than most other modes of medium- or long-distance travel besides buses. Kilometre-for-kilometre, trains are also much greener and more eco-friendly than buses, cars or planes.

Point-to-point tickets vs. rail passes

Point-to-point tickets
Point-to-point tickets let you board a specific train from Barcelona to Valencia at a designated station at an appointed time and get off at another specific station. If you want to make stops along the way, you will need new tickets to get back on the train to your final destination. You can’t just get on a different train other than the one specified on your ticket.
Point-to-point tickets are usually less expensive than passes, but they are not as flexible. You basically have to take the journey you purchased. Also, if you want to take lots of train trips in a short period of time, especially multiple train trips in one day (day trips, spontaneous stops, etc.), a pass might be more appropriate.
Rail passes you can use from Barcelona to Valencia
Rail passes enable you to be as whimsical as a Don Quixote adventure in your train trip. Your pass lasts for a matter of months (1 month, 3 months, etc.) and within that time, you get a certain number of “travel days.” You can plan them in advance or pick your travel dates last-minute. Just show up to the station and get on a Renfe-operated train, as long as there’s space! Note that Barcelona to Valencia high-speed trains typically require seat reservations.
Rail passes are great for day trips since you can take a morning train to a destination and an evening train back — and it all counts as the same travel day! See an interesting stop at a destination you’ve always wanted to visit? Just hop off! You can always hop on the next train to your final destination without burning another travel day.
Eurail offers rail passes for non-European residents, while Interrail offers passes for European residents. Passes to consider for the Barcelona to Valencia train route include:
Spain One Country Pass: A pass that allows you to travel anywhere in Spain by train but does not include international border crossings.
