The train from Perpignan to Barcelona is very fast, thanks to a new high-speed rail route which dives under the Pyrenees to link France and Spain. Both Spanish AVE and French TGV trains serve this cross-border route. For the best views of the Pyrenees, sit on the right side of the train.
If you prefer slow trains, you can also travel from Perpignan to Barcelona via the old line. Running south from Perpignan, this route skirts the beautiful Côte Vermeille (Vermillion Coast). Departures involve a change of train at Portbou. Allow four hours to travel right through to Barcelona.

Direct high-speed TGV or AVE trains follow a new high-speed line south from Perpignan which cuts under the Pyrenees. Within 15 mins of leaving Perpignan, you’ll already be in Spain. All services on this route make just two intermediate stops, at Figueres and at Girona.
