Discover the Swiss Travel Pass Flex

The Swiss Travel Pass Flex offers all the freedom of the classic Swiss Travel Pass but with added flexibility. Instead of travelling on consecutive days, you choose which days to travel within a longer validity period. That means you can take a train across the country one day, hike the Alps the next, then hop on a lake cruise two days later - all without paying extra for unused days in between.

It’s ideal for travellers who prefer to slow down, stay longer in one place, or build a custom itinerary that mixes travel days with relaxing days.

Swiss Travel Pass Flex vs. Swiss Travel Pass

These two are very similar. The key difference is how you schedule your travel days:

  • Swiss Travel Pass Flex: Use your unlimited travel days non-consecutively within a month. Ideal for longer stays with rest days in between.

  • Swiss Travel Pass: Valid for unlimited consecutive-day travel (3, 4, 6, 8, or 15 days). Best for fast-paced, daily travel across the country.

Swiss Travel Pass Flex vs. Swiss Half Fare Card

These passes differ in flexibility and how you pay:

  • Swiss Travel Pass Flex: Pay once and get unlimited travel on chosen days which is great for high-activity days.

  • Swiss Half Fare Card: Travel anytime for a month with 50% off per ticket. Best for occasional travel spread over a longer stay.

  • Your pass is valid for one month starting from your chosen date

  • You choose which days to activate for unlimited travel

  • Log into the Swiss Travel System app or website to activate a day before you board

  • No need to buy separate tickets on your activated days - just show your pass and ID when asked

  • For non-covered services (e.g. mountain lifts with discounts), show your pass to get reduced fares

A note on cancellations and seat reservations

  • Cancellations and Refunds: The pass may be refundable up to one day before its start date. Always check the fare conditions when booking.

  • Seat Reservations:Not required for most trains. However, for scenic services like the Glacier Express, Bernina Express, and GoldenPass Express, reservations are mandatory and must be paid separately.

Planning your itinerary with the Swiss Travel Pass Flex

Snow-capped mountain peak under clear blue sky, rocky foreground with vibrant pink flowers and lush green slopes in a scenic alpine landscape.

Because the pass is valid for a full month, it’s ideal for mixing travel days with days at leisure. Here are some ideas to build your perfect trip:

High-activity days:

  • Travel across the country by train e.g. Zurich to Zermatt, Lucerne to Lugano

  • Use a full travel day to explore scenic routes like the Glacier Express or GoldenPass Line

  • Visit multiple museums or cities in one go

Rest days between travel:

  • Stay several nights in cities like Lucerne or Lausanne and explore on foot

Child and youth passengers

The definition of "Child" and "Youth" varies by country and operator. This is why we ask for the age of young passengers.

Sometimes children below a certain age can travel without a seat for free. If you want to guarantee a seat for child passengers, enter '6' as the age of the child.
