There are direct trains each day from Nice to Genoa. These are EuroCity services operated by Thello. Additional connections are available with a change of train at Ventimiglia, but this adds around an hour to the journey time.
The entire route from Nice to Genoa follows the Mediterranean coast, first skirting the Côte d’Azur through Monaco and Menton to the Italian border and then travelling east along the Lugurian coast (the Riviera di Ponente) to Genoa. For the best of the sea views, look out the windows on the right-hand side of the train. You’ll cross the French-Italian border in a tunnel between Menton and Ventimiglia.

The direct Thello trains from Nice to Genoa are classified as EuroCity services, but in terms of their design and on-board facilities, they are broadly similar to the Frecciabianca trains used on domestic services within Italy.
