It is very easy to travel by train from Irun to Lisbon. A direct night train called the Surexpreso traverses northern Spain, crossing the Portuguese frontier while you sleep. By the morning, you’ll be cruising down the Tejo Valley into the Portuguese capital.
This is a premium night train service with a good range of accommodation options to suit all budgets. You can, if you wish, just book a seat, but it’s not the most comfortable option for overnight travel. We recommend trading up to a sleeper.
Irun to Lisbon (night train)
The overnight train from Irun to Lisbon is a useful option for travellers heading to the Portuguese capital from Paris, London or many other cities in France, the Low Countries, Germany and Switzerland. Transfer at Irun from the French TGV onto the Trenhotel service is quick and simple. On arrival in Lisbon, the train stops first at Lisbon Oriente and then ten minutes later at Lisbon Santa Apolónia. The latter is more convenient for the heart of the old city.
