Our story

1932, Rail Europe is founded in New York in order to promote French rail routes to North American travellers.
The first route sold was between Paris and Lyon, still one of our most popular journeys with customers today.

1959

We add Eurail train passes to our range of French rail tickets, so that travellers can extend their journeys across Europe.

1990 - 2010

Starting with the creation of RailEurope Inc. in 1990 for the North American market, the company expands into Australasia in 1995. In the early 2000s it continues to grow with representation in South America and South Africa, culminating in a new customer support team in Mumbai, India in 2010. At the same time we start to grow the number of destinations we sell tickets to, with Spain’s national rail operator Renfe becoming a new favourite.

2013

Rail Europe regroups all activities of voyages-sncf.com (now e.Voyageurs SNCF) outside of Europe, enabling us to strengthen our position on the international train booking market, and be part of one of the largest train booking companies in the world.

2016 - 2018

We continue to grow internationally by acquiring Rail Plus in Australia and New Zealand in 2016 and British train booking platform Loco2.com in 2017. Loco2.com was the only website or app where you could book train travel from anywhere in Britain to other European countries. Rail Europe becomes the international business unit of e.Voyageurs SNCF.

2019 - 2020

Loco2 changes tracks and adopts our legacy name Rail Europe. However, the state-of-the-art Loco2 booking platform had a lot of technical strengths and so we have kept it at the heart of Rail Europe as you see it today. Our head office is now in La Defense, on the outskirts of Paris and, still catering for a worldwide market of travellers, we also have subsidiary offices in New York, Shanghai, Melbourne and Mumbai. All part of what we set out to achieve way back in the 1930s - getting travellers to the places they need to get to, quickly and easily, and always inspiring connections.
