Explore Italy from top to toe with new direct train route

Launch of a new Italian rail service linking the northernmost region of Italy to its southernmost province.

It is now possible to travel from top to toe of Italy’s famous boot in under 10 hrs, thanks to a new high-speed train route connecting Italy’s northern Alto Adige (South Tyrol) province to the southern region of Calabria.

This new direct express link takes 9 hrs 29 mins and runs once daily from the lush green valley of Bolzano to Sibari, on the sparkling blue coast of Italy.

This new route is an extension to the current lunchtime service connecting Bolzano and Rome, which has now been extended to reach Calabria. The service departs from Bolzano at 13:16 and reaches Rome at 17:53 where it has an extended stop. The service then proceeds onwards at 18:14 to Salerno, Scalea and Paola before heading inland through the Monte Santomarco Tunnel to eastern Calabria, finally arriving in Sibari at 22:45.

The journey back from Sibari to Bolzano leaves at 06:15 and gets into Rome at 10:30. It then continues northwards, arriving in Bolzano at 15:14.

Prices for the direct Bolzano-Sibari service start from just £43.30 one-way.

This is one small booking step, and a giant leap for travellers wishing to explore the whole of Italy.
