Trenitalia is known for its fleet of high-speed Frecce trains. Trains cover all the major tourist destinations (Rome, Venice, Milan) and there are over 250 departures per day! Travel in comfort and style at speeds of up to 300 kilometres per hour. You'll discover the beauty of Italy in style and get a taste of La Dolce Vita.
Why travel with Trenitalia?
Trenitalia is Italy’s state-owned railway company and the leading rail carrier in Italy. Their fleet of high-speed, InterCity and regional trains cover many of Italy’s most coveted destinations.Opt for a slow travel experience and explore picturesque towns along the way stick with high-speed. Frecciarossa1000 travels at up to 400 km per hour. So it’s quick and easy to travel between Rome and Milan or Naples and Venice.
Freccia means “arrow," and Trenitalia's Frecce trains fall into three designated categories:

🗸 Frecciargento: (high-speed) Milan via Rome to the toe
🗸 Frecciabianca : (conventional) Turin via Milan to Venice and beyond
Where does Trenitalia go?
Trenitalia covers a great variety of destinations. Visit large cities like Rome, regional treasures of Tuscany and small enclaves like Cinque Terre. Trenitalia also provides airport connections in Rome, Milan, Pisa, and more.
The northwest of Italy: Visit Milan , the fashion capital of Italy. Or stopover in the port city of Genoa for some rest and relaxation on the Ligurian Coast.
The northeast of Italy: Explore Venice's waterways and Bologna's legendary cuisine in the Emilia-Romagna region.

On selected dates between 3 April and 26 July 2026, visitors to Venice’s historic centre must pay an entry fee set by the Municipality of Venice.

What should I know before boarding?
There is no check-in prior to boarding high-speed and regional trains. It's best to arrive at the train station at least 15 mins before departure. You'll need time to find the platform. Ticket inspection occurs onboard.
What can I expect onboard?
Onboard Frecciarossa and Frecciargento trains: 🗸 Free wifi. Simply sign in to the train’s onboard wifi network.
🗸 Free FRECCE Portal, an entertainment platform offering a wide choice of films, TV shows, music, newspapers, weekly and monthly magazines. Get real time information and updates about your journey.
🗸 Unlike at airports, there are no weight limits for your luggage as long as you’re able to carry it yourself. Just make sure you can store it safely in the luggage racks onboard.
🗸 Trenitalia’s onboard catering service, FrecciaBistrò, is available on all Frecce trains. It provides food and drink options made with fresh, seasonal ingredients, including gluten free, vegetarian and dairy free options.
How do I get tickets?
🗸 Trenitalia tickets are open for bookings 180 days in advance.
🗸 Seat reservations are mandatory on Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca and Intercity trains.
🗸 Get the lowest prices on Trenitalia by booking early and don’t wait until the last minute. Cheaper seats sell out quickly.
🗸 Opt for off-peak Trenitalia trains when you have to travel at short notice. Off-peak Trenitalia trains are more affordable than ones that run mornings and evenings, Fridays and Sundays or during popular holidays.

Classes of service
Trenitalia has different classes of service depending on which train you take.
Frecciarossa
Trenitalia’s bright red Frecciarossa trains are their fastest, achieving speeds of up to 400 km per hour. Frecciarossa trains have four classes of service. All trains are air conditioned and have free wifi.
🗸 Executive Class: If you're looking for luxury travel experience, Executive Class may be for you. The executive carriage has just 10 ergonomic leather swivel seats, a special gourmet catering service, and an open bar.
🗸 Premium Class: Premium passengers benefit from spacious seating, quiet carriages, and a complimentary sweet or savoury snack. Additional food and drink (including meals) can be purchased from the bar carriage (FRECCIABistro) or with EasyBistro via the FRECCE Portal.
🗸 Business Class: Business Class passengers benefit from spacious seating, quiet carriages, and a food box. (Please specify any special dietary requirements.) Additional food and drink (including meals) can be purchased from the bar carriage (FRECCIABistro) or with EasyBistro via the FRECCE Portal.

Frecciargento
Trenitalia’s silver Frecciargento trains travel at speeds of up to 250km per hour. They have two classes of service: First Class and Second Class. All trains are air conditioned and have free wifi.
🗸 First Class: First class customers benefit from individual power sockets, a complimentary snack and beverage, and an overhead courtesy light.
🗸 Second Class: Second class passengers benefit from a free welcome food box.

Frecciabianca
Trenitalia’s Frecciabianca trains run on conventional lines. Although not as fast, Frecciabianca trains offer all the comfort and class of their faster Frecce counterparts. Frecciabianca trains have two classes of service: First Class and Second Class.
🗸 First Class: 2x1 seating. On select routes, First Class includes a welcome drink, a snack, and a newspaper (mornings only). Access to the bar carriage and luggage storage.
🗸 Second Class: Second Class: 2x2 seating. Access to the bar carriage and luggage storage.

Intercity and regional trains
Trenitalia’s Intercity and regional trains have two classes of service: First Class and Standard Class. There are also some Intercity trains that offer sleeping compartments. Regional tickets are valid for two months from the date of purchase.
🗸 First Class: 2x1 seating. (Please note that First Class is available on select trains only.) Passengers can bring their own snacks onboard.
🗸 Standard Class: 2x2 seating. Passengers can bring their own snacks onboard.
