It is easy to travel by train from Paris to Hendaye, with direct departures each day on this key route across western France to the Spanish border. If the timings of the direct daytime trains don’t suit your schedule, there are additional options from Paris to Hendaye requiring one change of train along the way, usually at either Bordeaux or Dax.
The daytime direct services are operated by SNCF’s sleek TGVs. The journey starts with an impressive high-speed dash, with most trains covering the first 218 km in less than an hour. After crossing the Loire, the train cruises south through the Poitou-Charentes region towards Aquitaine.
Paris to Hendaye

Direct TGVs to Hendaye depart from Paris Montparnasse station. It is a journey of two halves: a fast dash from Paris to Bordeaux using the new high-speed line opened in July 2017, followed by a leisurely dawdle from Bordeaux to Hendaye. Beyond Bordeaux the train traverses the forested landscapes of Landes, eventually reaching the Atlantic coast at Biarritz. There are occasional glimpses of the sea (to the right) in the final 20 minutes of the journey to Hendaye. The direct trains run non-stop to Bordeaux and then make four additional stops between Bordeaux and Hendaye. Occasional trains continue over the international bridge to terminate at Irun in Spain. If you are bound for Spain, and you are on a train which terminates at Hendaye, worry not! There is a very efficient tram service over the bridge. It takes just four or five minutes on the tram from Hendaye station to Irun station.
