Cologne to Vienna (night train)
Austrian Railways (ÖBB) run every evening an overnight service from the German Rhineland to Vienna. The night train leaves from Cologne Hauptbahnhof for the journey to the Austrian capital. Upon arrival in Vienna you may alight at either Meidling station or at the new Hauptbahnhof – the latter offers the best range of onward connections.
The first couple of hours of the journey the train follows the Rhine Valley. On a moonlit night, this offers some splendid moments as the train runs up the famous gorge section of the Rhine south of Koblenz. Thereafter you’ll probably be asleep for much of the overnight run via the Main and Danube Valleys to Vienna.
