EuroCity
The journey by train from Berlin to Warsaw is very easy. The train which serves this route is called the Berlin-Warszawa-Express (BWE). It is operated by the Polish national rail operator PKP-InterCity in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn. The route tracks east from the German capital, crossing the River Oder into Poland. As you travel further east, a landscape of seemingly endless forests gives way to arable land. The principal city on the journey is Poznan, exactly midway between Berlin and Warsaw.
Seat reservations are compulsory for journeys on the BWE from Berlin to any destination in Poland. The cost of that seat reservation is included in the price of your ticket. In addition to the BWE trains from Berlin to Warsaw there is also a train run by RZD Russian Railways. This Moscow-bound train is a premium service with special fares, which can also be booked on Loco2.
Berlin Hbf to Warszawa Centralna

The Berlin-Warszawa-Express (BWE) serves two stations in Berlin: Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnhof. Do just check as there are days when, because of track work in and around Berlin, the departure stations in Berlin may vary. Upon arrival in Warsaw, BWE trains stop at three stations, namely Zachodnia, Centralna and Wschodnia. The Centralna station is the best option for the city centre.
The BWE is part of the EuroCity brand, with comfortable trains with both first and second class seating. This is a route where the trains can be full, and you may want to consider travelling first class for that little bit of extra comfort. All BWE trains carry a restaurant car serving drinks, snacks and light meals. The menu features Polish staples such as zurek and pierogi. Prices are modest and the atmosphere in the restaurant car, fuelled by good Polish beer, is invariably convivial.
Travel time between Berlin and Warsaw may change from late 2018 or early 2019 when a new timetable is introduced upon completion of track improvement work taking place east of Poznan. That should cut about an hour off the current timing for the journey from Berlin to Warsaw. The EuroCity BWE trains on this route make between six and nine intermediate stops on their journey between the two capitals. Within Germany, the most important stop after Berlin is at Frankfurt-an-der-Oder. On the Polish section of the route Poznan is the largest city (and a place well deserving of a stopover).
