Taking the train from Paris to Strasbourg is the obvious choice, thanks to frequent and fast services from the capital. Fast TGV or ICE trains run a dozen or more times each day from Paris to Strasbourg.
The main route is via the TGV Est line, an extension to the French high-speed rail network that opened in 2007. The extension was built in two phases, with the final section of this high-speed line completed in 2016. The fastest trains run non-stop while others make just a couple of stops, adding 15 minutes to the journey time.

The journey time was trimmed by half an hour in July 2016, when the high-speed line was extended east through the Vosges Mountains to the Rhine Valley.
