Swiss Travel News 2006 From Rail Europe:
Free Admission to Museums and 50% Discounts on Mountain-Tops;
Same-Day Baggage Delivery Between 45 Cities, Glacier Express Premium Class

White Plains, NY, April 24, 2006 - More convenience, comfort and savings are what American travelers can expect from the superbly integrated and efficient Swiss Travel System (STS) this year. STS products are sold in North America by Rail Europe, which is owned in part by the Swiss Federal Railways.

New for 2006

  • Free admission to over 400 museums - A great new bonus of the Swiss Pass, Swiss Youth Pass and Swiss Flexi Pass is free admission to museums throughout the country, such as the Swiss Open-Air Museum in Ballenberg, the new Paul Klee Center in Bern , Chillon Castle on Lake Geneva and many more. Check out the many other Swiss Pass bonuses (free use of city transportation systems, discounts on many hotels and city tours, etc) at http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/passes/swiss_pass.htm. The Swiss Pass starts at $158 US (Saverpass price) for 4 days of unlimited train travel.
  • 50% discount on most mountain-top rides by cogwheel train or cable car - Another bonus of the Swiss Pass, Swiss Youth Pass and Swiss Flexi Pass - previously the discount was only 25%.
  • Same-Day "Fast Baggage" Shipment - Travel light by purchasing "Fast Baggage" vouchers ($15 per piece) before you leave home and hand over your luggage at the departure station so you can concentrate on enjoying the train ride. Your bags arrive at the destination station the same day. Especially useful when stopping to see sights along the way, or schlepping skis, snowboards or a stroller.
  • Glacier Express Premium - From May 2006 a new class of service - Premium Class - will be offered between St. Moritz-Zermatt on this legendary scenic train route: quieter panorama cars, commentary in 6 languages, food served at your seat, air conditioning and wheel chair access.
  • Postal Bus Reservations - Why chance it? Reserve your seat on a Swiss Postal Bus (often goes where trains don't) before you leave home. Rail Europe offers reservations on bus routes between popular destinations, such as the Palm Express connecting St. Moritz and Lugano.
  • No smoking throughout the entire Swiss Transportation System - Ban was implemented in December 2005 [see Rail Europe press release 12/15/05]
  • Deal for families - The Swiss Travel System Family Card isn't new but is a great bargain - children under 16 travel free on the entire STS network if at least one parent has a valid Swiss Travel System ticket/pass.
