BritRail South West Pass: The All -Terrain Pass

The BritRail South West Pass is available in First or Second Class depending on the route, and as a consecutive or a flexi-pass. Though the real charm of this pass is the unbelievable opportunity it gives the most seasoned travelers to take the train to Wales and experience the nuanced vibe of neighborhoods and villages all along the way.

While the BritRail South West Pass sounds very specific, it sure covers a lot of great territory in southwest England and parts of Wales. You’ll find its popular destinations include London, Bath, Oxford, Windsor Castle, Salisbury Cathedral, and King Arthur’s Winchester. Still, rolling hills and castles aren’t the only thing southwest of Britain. Southwest England is also home to seaside resorts and charming waterfront towns such as Torquay, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, St. Ives, Exeter, Plymouth and Penzance. Additionally, part of what makes this pass so indispensable is that it’s valid on most mainline and branch line services in the area (First Great Western, South West Trains and Heathrow Express trains).

Here's what you get:

  • The BritRail South West Pass is valid on most rail services operated by First Great Western, South West Trains and Heathrow Express trains.
  • Consecutive pass available in 3, 4, 8, 15 days, or 1 month consecutive travel
  • Flexipass lets you choose from 3, 4, 8 or 22 days within 2 months for travel
  • First or second class available. First class prices take into account regions where only standard rail is available.

Discounted offers:

  • Special Family Pass: For each adult or senior traveler, one child (ages 5-15) travels free.
  • Child rates are valid for children ages 5 -15.
  • Children under age 5 travel for free when they share a seat/bed with an adult/senior.

Conditions of Use

  • Residents of United Kingdom are not eligible to purchase or use a BritRail South West Pass.
  • Rail Passes must be validated within 6 months of issue date.
  • Rail Passes must be validated before boarding the first train. Passes are actual travel documents and do not need to be exchanged.
  • Persons using a U.S. military I.D. are eligible to purchase this pass.
  • Any journey continuing outside the BritRail South West Pass area must be paid for before boarding the train i.e: a valid ticket must be held, otherwise penalty fares may be incurred.
  • The BritRail South West Pass cannot be used to travel on the following:
    • Any train service west of Swansea.
    • Any train service Gloucester and Newport via Chepstow.
    • First Western’s Night Riviera night train, unless a bed has been purchased in addition to the BritRail South West Pass
    • Any train service east of Portsmouth, eve.n if this route is operated by First Great Western.
    • Any train service in South Wales other than the Newport – Cardiff – Swansea mainline.
    • Any train service operated by Arriva Cross Country, Arriva Trains Wales, Chiltern, Southern, First Capital Connect, Southeastern or London Midland.
