Trenitalia reaches over 200 stations a day, including all major cities, many port cities in southern Italy and some international destinations. Italo travels between the major cities of Milan, Rome and 14 other stations at speeds upward of 223 mph. Rail Europe offers advance purchase fares for both Trenitalia and Italo with discounts of up to 75% (the percentage is based on the cost of a full fare ticket purchased on the date of travel) and an e-ticket option is available for all Italo and Trenitalia train tickets.

Wait! Do I need a reservation for my train trip?

Reservations are required for its high-speed and Inter-City trains, international day and night trains traveling to and from Italy, as well as overnight domestic trains. Reservations can be requested within 60 days of your travel date for domestic  Trenitalia trains, and up to 90 days prior on some international trains. Tickets for Italo's new generation of high-speed trains are available for purchase within 120 days of your travel date and include a required reservation. Book early enough to get what you want, including a discounted fare.

Please note: if you are exploring Italy with a rail pass, you will be able to use your rail pass for travel in Trenitalia trains, but not for travel on Italo. However, if you do want to ride on Italo, you can still certainly purchase a ticket to experience this special train.
