Italian Trains

Compare schedules & choose from the same fares offered in Italy for Italo & Trenitalia trains

Rail Europe has North America’s only comprehensive site with the widest range of Italian train tickets at fares comparable to those in Italy. Italian trains are among the most welcoming and fast in the world. Options like the privately held Italo trains and Italy’s national train service, Trenitalia, offer everything from high-speed to Intercity Express and regional trains. In Italy, “high-speed” can mean up to 220 mph, making it the most spectacular, efficient and stress-free way to see more of Italy.

Italo and Trenitalia both offer you a choice of service classes: on Italo they’re called Ambiences (Club, Prima, Smart) and on Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa trains there’s Executive, Business, Premium and Standard Class, with all other Trenitalia trains offering First or Second class. You’ll find a class just perfect for your budget and, the earlier you book, the more likely you are to get a lower fare. On both Italo and Trenitalia, you’ll find an e-ticket option on all fares.

Hungry? Of course you are. You’re in Italy! On Italo, snacks and meals are available for purchase (meals served at your seat). Trenitalia has a bar car with food and snacks available to all travelers. For Executive class travelers, a meal is included, and first class travelers are provided with a welcome drink.

To help you stay connected, Italo trains all offer free WiFi on board, as do most Trenitalia high-speed trains. And some trains even offer online entertainment access.

The Italo and Trenitalia trains utilize differant stations in Rome. Italo trains use the Tiburtina and Ostiense stations, whereas the Termini station is the Trenitalia hub. Trenitalia’s trains reach over 200 stations daily, including many port cities in southern Italy. And Italo’s network offers service to 13 Italian cities and 16 stations.
