First Great Western

Seating Options

A train line like the First Great Western caters to many different types of travelers: from commuters to locals to adventurers. And the First Class offering has to be First Class to all of them. That’s why you’ll find the amenities varied and helpful, regardless of whether you’re using the train as a secondary office, or simply getting some well-needed rest time between sightseeing on your feet. (Because of course, on a train you’re still always sightseeing. Whether it’s past the rolling English countryside or cosmopolitan business centers.) The cabin itself is a sophisticated, luxurious affair with soothing appointments, power outlets and plentiful space. A quiet car is available on all high-speed services, and if your stomach starts making noise you’ll find tasty treats from the Express Café available for purchase and served by a First Class hostess.

There really is something for everyone. And frankly, there had to be.

Meals & Concessions

Attendent on the train serving drinks

Our First Class travelers are all over the map. Literally. So we figured their hunger for things would be just as varied. That’s why most First Great Western high-speed services offer a buffet or trolley service with a wide selection of hot and cold snacks, sandwiches, beverages, crisps and sweets. The trolley comes by your seat and offers light refreshments Monday to Friday, including tea, freshly made coffee, soft drinks, mineral water, morning goods, biscuits, peanuts and fresh fruit.

If you’re lucky enough to be traveling on a Friday night, the Friday Night Wine Club offers First Class travelers a complimentary glass from 3-7pm. It’s a great way to put a cork in the week. We can hear the “Cheers!” now.

On Board Services

First Great Western offers plentiful on-board benefits to those traveling First Class. It starts with a warm welcome that leads to your cushy reclining seat, replete with a table and power outlet. You’ll be waited on by a First Class host with complimentary refreshments throughout your journey, and on some trains be able to have food delivered to your seat from an on-board buffet.

There’s even a Friday Night Wine Club to celebrate the beginning of the weekend. Who wouldn’t raise a glass to that?
