Switzerland Railways – Panoramic Views and Fine Dining

Golden Pass LineEveryone knows that the Alpine views from a train chugging up a mountain in Switzerland are spectacular. But all is not just a visual feast. The food served on board is just as extraordinary.

Take the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz/Davos or a gourmet ride on the Golden-Pass Line from Montreux to Lucerne. These panoramic routes are among the finest railway experiences to be had anywhere in the world – thanks to the breathtaking views, and to the gourmet dishes served in the dining car.
On the Golden-Pass Classic, the dining car is shaped like a wine barrel. Glass in hand, you’ll glide past the most beautiful parts of Switzerland, from Zweisimmen to Montreux, pampered by the chefs and indulged by the scenery.

Dining on the Golden Pass LineAlso on the Golden-Pass Line, the Belle Époque comes to life on the Salon Bleu train in the legendary style of the Orient Express. Enjoy anything from a glass of champagne to a multi-course menu surrounded by mountains majesty. The train makes an electrifying descent towards Montreux, passing through vineyards and sprawling country estates.

Everyone loves fondue – and it tastes even better when enjoyed on a mountaintop. Mount Rigi, the panoramic mountain high above Lake Lucerne, is reached by vintage electronic cog wheel railway, which dates from 1911. This is the perfect photographic moment. Say “Cheese.”

Want to Bond over breakfast? Scaling the mighty peaks of the Alps by train will work up your appetite. Lucky for you, you can enjoy a delicious “James Bond Breakfast” at the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant on top of Mt. Schilthorn. It’s here that “On her Majesty’s Secret Service” was filmed. Eat up – we promise you won’t have to ski down.
