Compare Travel Time By Air, Car, and Train between European Cities

Rail Europe Travel Comparator

Compare travel time between European cities by air, car and rail with Rail Europe's Travel Comparator.

Going to Europe? Lucky stiff. Bet you’ve made a packing list, bought plenty of guidebooks and have an idea of how to get from metropolis to sleepy seaside town. Sure, you’ve thought about taking one of those low-cost air carriers, or even braving the road in a stick-shift car as you question what that traffic sign says in German.

We’ve got a better idea. And it doesn’t include stressful airports or confusing rental car agreements. And the best part? Less time traveling. More time enjoying. Even the journey is part of the quintessential European experience.

What are we talking about?

Take the train. Come aboard and we’ll show you why it’s the best way to get around Europe. Check out the Rail Europe Travel Comparator. Just tell us your starting point and destination and you’ll find out how long it really takes by plane, by car and by rail.

We think you’ll be surprised by the answer. More surprising to you – is how enjoyable the train will be. Gorgeous scenery. Talking with travelers and locals. Country-specific cuisine that tastes a heck of a lot better than airplane food and roadside snacks. You’ll reach your destination smack dab in the city center – ready to see the sights. So dare to compare. And enjoy the journey.

Last summer we spent a month touring France: Paris – Cote d’Azur – Dordogne – Loire – Paris.

More than half our travel was done by train. With the lack of TGV service in the eastern part of the country, and the fact that we were 4 people, some car travel was more economical (but only slightly).

The trains were fast, clean, and on-time, and we avoided the hours of traffic-jams which plague France during the summer.

    Vive le train!
