Murano, Burano and Torcello Half-Day Sightseeing Tour

Explore three famous islands of the Venetian Lagoon – Murano, Torcello and Burano – on a half-day sightseeing excursion by motorboat. Accompanied by a local guide, you'll stop at a glass-blowing factory on Murano, visit Venice's first cathedral on the tranquil island of Torcello and shop for handcrafted lace on Burano. This morning or afternoon tour is a great introduction to the magical islands around the medieval city of Venice and its enclosed bay in the Adriatic Sea.

What You Can Expect

Murano, Burano and Torcello Half Day Sightseeing Tour
Murano, Burano and Torcello Half Day Sightseeing Tour

Board a comfortable motorboat, departing from the Alilaguna pier in front of the Royal Gardens, and speed along the Venetian Lagoon to three islands famous for their handicrafts and architecture. You’ll cruise past the islands of San Giorgio Maggiore, San Servolo, San Lazzaro degli Armeni and Sant’Elena Gardens to Murano, divided into nine islets crossed by a wide canal. Known for its glassware shops and factories, Murano boasts a long and still-thriving tradition dating back to 1291, when glass artisans moved their kilns from the old city center.

Explore the island on foot and stop at a glass factory to watch a skilled glass blower create works of art. Learn from your guide about Murano’s wealth in the 15th and 16th centuries when the island was central to Europe’s glass making. View the magnificent splendor of Murano’s palaces and Veneto-Byzantine style churches, some with mosaics and ornamental motifs designed in the 12th century, and catch a glimpse of San Michele – Venice’s 19th-century cemetery – across the water. Before re-boarding the boat, you'll have time to visit a museum showcasing the world-famous Murano glass.

When you reach the island of Torcello – established between the 5th and 6th centuries and the earliest center of civilization in the Venetian Lagoon – you’ll see evidence of the island’s glorious past as it once flourished with ornate palaces and churches. First, view the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in the 7th century. Your guide will also show you the excavated remains of the circular baptistery in the Church of Santa Fosca, which showcases a delightful portico and striking Byzantine interior.

Afterward, journey to the island of Burano and admire the picturesque fishermen's houses painted in bright pastel colors. In this miniature Venice, you’ll find the famous lace – abundant since the 16th century and once considered the most refined in Europe. Browse local shops and find lace on display at a museum dedicated to the craft of lace making before your guide returns you to Venice.

Our tour guide, Frederica, was knowledgeable, enthusiastic , and VERY patient. Some of our group lagged behind and she gently but firmly moved them along but at the same time continued to inform the rest of us

Good value for the money. A bit rushed but it did Dover a lot of ground. Not really enough time to really check out murano glass but you can take the water bus back for cheap and spend as much time as you want later.

I really enjoyed the tour. I was very impressed with the glass blowing factory.

This trip was excellent value for money. The guide was very knowledgeable and easy to understand. It gave us a taste of the life on each of the islands. On future trips we can now go back to visit for a little longer. Recommend this trip to anyone.

This tour is so much worthy than what you paid for. Imagine, visiting 3 islands in a boat and with a tour guide to explain everything! Amazing! Tour guide is so proficient and knowledgeable of the places we visited. It is worth coming back using their services.

This was a great trip. I could have spent more time in Murano, and Burano and a little less in Torcello. Great trip! Highly recommend. This is a fun tour if you want to see the different islands spread out around Venice you wouldn't see otherwise. It's a long one, so be prepared to take along a few snacks and water in case you get hungry.

This was a great trip. Be ready when they say the boat leaves at 2pm, be there by 1:55pm they do not wait. I could have spent more time in Murano, and Burano and a little less in Torcello. Great trip! Highly recommend.

Really easy to find pick up point, lovely to see scenery on the boat between the islands, good tour guide.
Mutano was good to see the glass blowing, but not much else there except glass shops, was okay though as you only get half hour there, then onto what a lovely island,I could have stayed there for hours, very pretty with lots of bars and shops, stalls, and more of a leisurely pace than the crazy Venice. Also picked up a few different pieces from here.
Torcwllo was a waste of time, unless you want to see the church after a long walk there is nothing there. I would rather have just done the first two and it would have been a perfect trip.
You have to do it though, for the price is is excellent value.

This tour was a great value for the money from the glass blowing in Murano to the brief lace making info in Burano. Torcello was like a beautiful, huge park and a nice respite from the retail on the other two islands. We loved all three islands included. The commentary was adequate and there was enough free time on each.We would highly recommend this tour.

This is a fun tour if you want to see the different islands spread out around Venice you wouldn't see otherwise. It's a long one, so be prepared to take along a few snacks and water in case you get hungry.

On Murano and Burano, you're given a brief demonstration of what each island is known for as soon as you land. On Murano, you're given an interesting demonstration by their skilled glass blowers while on Burano, you get to see their impressive lacework. Afterwards you can explore the shops for a brief window of time. I suggest checking out the other shops first before making a purchase, but there's plenty to choose from if you like to shop. Torcello has no shopping, but beautiful church ruins that you can explore at your leisure.

The guides were fine, but it's difficult to hear them while out on the boat traveling from place to place. Still, you'll see many beautiful locations, so don't let that deter you from enjoying the boat ride. And best of all, each island takes you away from the crowded streets of Venice while still enjoying why people everywhere want to visit this stunning city.

This tour was a quick way to see the islands with some overall history of the areas. Unfortunately it was pouring down rain and it made it a little more difficult to see and enjoy. But great tour.
