Lisbon Guided Walking Tour

Your first stop on your guided walking tour of Lisbon is Rossio Square, the heart of the old and new Lisbon. The square was built in the 19th century and is paved with typical Portuguese cobblestones in the shape of waves. Next, visit Restauradores Square, where an obelisk stands tall, commemorating Portugal’s independence from Spain in 1640.

From here, admire Liberdade Avenue, the Eden Theatre (one of the best examples of Portuguese Art Deco), and the 18th-century Foz Palace. Marvel at the intricate Neo-Manueline architecture of Rossio Central Station, which connects the city to Sintra through a 1.61-mile-long (2.6 km) tunnel and is considered to be one of the most important engineering works of Portugal from the 19th century.

Next, learn about the Carnation Revolution as you visit beautiful Carmo Square, the very place where Portugal’s old dictatorial regime fell in 1974 after 48 years and where the Carmelite's Carmo Convent is located. Then walk through the elegant Chiado neighborhood, with its old cafés, boutiques, theaters and bookstores. Spend some time in this aristocratic quarter, one of the most interesting pedestrian areas in Lisbon, before enjoying a short trip on one of Lisbon’s vintage trams (fare included).

When you get off the tram, wander through the small squares, twisting streets and blind alleys where the roofs almost touch each other of Alfama, a Moorish neighborhood and the oldest district in Lisbon. This is the birthplace of Fado, Portugal's own musical genre. Learn about this type of music as you pass the Fado Museum and some hidden Fado restaurants.

Then admire the beauty of Sé de Lisboa cathedral, the city’s oldest church. End your tour in Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), one of Europe’s largest squares that was for centuries a reception hall for visitors arriving by sea.

This was a fantastic tour. Our guide Sofia was very informative and knowledgeable. You get to see some great parts of Lisbon and it is a great way to get a layout of the City. You also get to try some Pastel de nata , wine and cheese. Just a word of advice , wear good walking shoes cause you are going to need them and bring a bottle of water. Overall I would recommend this walking tour to everyone.

An absolute MUST! Especially if its your first time in Lisbon. Everything was so well planned, organized, and enjoyable. We had Miguel and he was AWESOME! Not only did he provide a thorough history about the city and the Portuguese people, you could tell he truly cares and loves teaching others about his country's history and culture. If you could somehow request Miguel, do so!

It was the best decision to take walking tour first. It's lot of walking but that is the best way to know the place, culture, history. Part of this tour we got a Tram ride, tasted the Custard tart as well as Portuguese Tapas without any extra cost. Our guide Andrea was great. He also answers all of your question related to your stay in Lisbon.

Our guide was Sofia. She is excellent. We saw so many places on this walking tour, gave us some good pieces of advice where to eat, how to get to certain places. We also crossed the river Tagu by ferry boat, and had a good seafood lunch on the other side of the city. In the middle of the trip we all felt as we had met before, and hugged at the end of it.

My daughter and I thought this was an excellent tour. We went on our first morning in Lisbon and it gave us a good introduction to the city as well as a chance to orientate ourselves. Sophie, our guide, was delightful. She gave just enough information about each location and did not hurry us at each stopping point.
We also enjoyed the variety of the tour, walking, chatting, sampling the local pastries and wines.A small group meant we were also able to chat to our fellow travellers
Definitely recommended

We had a short time in Lisbon and wanted to get to know the city in a short time. This tour was marvelous and I would have no hesitation in recommending it. It was made particularly better by the tour guide, Tiago Neiva. He was simply the best guide, his knowledge and expertise excellent, his English speaking skills very good and his efforts to ensure that we got the most out of the tour were very well appreciated by all of us.

We loved this walking tour. Our tour guide Margarita was excellent. Food, drink, dessert and great information and views. What more could you ask for. Even though we are older she made sure to keep the walking pace something we could keep up with. Thank you Margarita.

This was a great way to get an overview of the old town portion of Lisbon. We then combined it with a food and wine tasting walking tour which covered a different section of the old town. The combination of the two gave us a real insight to how Lisbon developed over the centuries. In both cases, the guides were excellent and very knowledgeable.

We took three different walking tours during our week in Lisbon, making sure that they all encompassed different areas, or had different themes. This was the first of the three, and our first orientation to the city. Our tour guide Rita was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. The tour was conducted in English, and we walked at a comfortable pace, not too slow, not too fast. We stopped for some food tastings in different neighborhoods, we got a sense of the city and how to get around most efficiently to see what we were most interested in, and we had the feeling of meeting new friends. I highly recommend this tour, and this tour guide! Thank you, Rita!

We took this tour on our first day and it helped us getting around and enjoying the city for the rest of our time in Lisbon. Well worth the price and highly recommended.
