Ghent and Bruges Day Trip from Brussels
Discover medieval history and Belgian mystery on this Ghent and Bruges day trip from Brussels. Explore the historic, UNESCO-listed cities of Ghent and Bruges — two of Flanders' special gems — with your guide. Visit top attractions such as St Bavo’s Cathedral, the ancient port, St Nicholas’ Church and the Castle of the Counts of Flanders in Ghent. Travel by coach through the Belgian and Flemish countryside to Bruges. There, marvel at Minnewater and wander cobblestone streets to the impressive Market Square and the Chapel of the Holy Blood.
What You Can Expect
Following a morning pickup from your hotel in Brussels, meet your guide and hop aboard your air-conditioned coach for the 1-hour journey to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Ghent, widely considered among the most beautiful cities in Belgium.
Begin your tour with a visit to St Bavo’s Cathedral, home of world-famous late-medieval treasures such as the painting, ‘Mystic Lamb’. Admire the cathedral’s ornate interior and learn of its impressive history from your guide.
Leave St Bavo’s behind and head onward for a walking tour of Ghent. Take in top city attractions such as the belfry, St Nicholas’ Church, the Castle of the Counts of Flanders (Gravensteen) and the historic buildings and medieval port at the Graslei.
Continue on to the neighboring city of Bruges — also UNESCO-listed — with your guide and wander the cobblestone streets of the romantic Minnewater (Lake of Love). Here, perhaps take time to enjoy a little lunch at a nearby café or restaurant (own expense).
Afterward, begin your walking tour and discover why so many people from across the world fall in love with this beautiful Belgian city. Take in Saint John’s Hospital, Our Lady’s Church with the statue by Michelangelo (optional), City Hall, the Market Square and the medieval Chapel of the Holy Blood.
At the conclusion of your walking tour, perhaps enjoy a boat tour along Bruges’ picturesque canals (own expense) and soak up the city views from a different angle.
When it’s time to depart from Bruges, hop back aboard your coach for the 1.5-hour journey back to Brussels where your tour will come to an end.

Our tour guide, Johannes, was able to provide interesting background and perspective about the many beautiful sites we visited in both Ghent and Brugges. Due to the large number of sites, we were barely able to scratch the surface but Johannes was adept at hitting the highlights and making sure that everything was explained in sufficient detail. This day trip was just enough to make us wish to visit each city for multiple days. As with previous Viatour excursions, transportation was very comfortable and just enough time was left to explore on our own that we didn't feel like part of a herd.
Great trip in both cities. Long day but it was worth every minute!
Informative and pleasant tour guide, efficient smooth coach driver. Excellent sites to visit. A lovely relaxing yet busy day trip.
We had a great tour guide who was knowledgeable about both cities. The cities are so amazing and is a must if you are in Brussels!
It was nice tour. Nice and friendly staff.
Well organized, Very nice tour with experienced and friendly guide.
Great guiding and places to visit. We loved it!
My favourite day trip. Bruges is amazing, the guide was wonderful and there was plenty of free time to check out all the little alleyways and shops. Totally loved it : : AAA
This tour covered all tbat we hoped- long day but really if you short on time this goves a good overview of both places! The guide was amazing! Really knew the places, kept us together and was very interesting to listen to!
Everything was very good, even wether changed to better on the way to Ghent :. Thank you very much!!!
Five stars for the beauty of the cities. One star for the tour guide. John Paul is the worst. 5 French and 40 English on tour. No headsets so 90% could not hear him. Mumbled between two languages. Didn't seem to care about this. No regard for safety when trolleys/cars passed by. Find different co.
Our guide was great. He went out of his way for us!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip, the guide, Daniel was great! Informative and entertaining. We were in Brussels for 4 days, and are so glad that we took the time to visit Ghent and Bruges - such charismatic towns.
Great tour! Ghent and Bruges are worth seeing. Make sure to take the boat tour in Bruges. So many delicious/artistic chocolates, cakes and lunch items. As well, the horse carriages were everywhere! The clip clop sounds of hooves on cobblestones was pure magic!

The tour was great, certainly worth doing. Our tour guide spoke at least 4 different languages which meant everybody could understand. You must be prepared for a lot of walking, so wear comfortable footwear.
This tour was amazing!
Bruges and it's canals and old buildings are what this tour is all about. Delightful, a perfect photo op at every turn! Ghent was also spectacular with it's river that bisected the town and old castles / forts. You'll come home with lots of memories and pix!
Tour was worth the money as travelling to brugges and Ghent was a long journey, therefore joining the tour will be cheaper than taking the train yourself. You were free to explore the city yourself.
This tour was amazing!
Great experience. We learned a lot during this tour.
